on "vacay"

so much to blog about, i just don't know where to start!
the aquarium was AWESOME!!!
i mean walking under 6.2 million litres (or it may have been gallons) of water which housed 2 whale sharks and a whole host of other animals was really cool, I've got a massive pile of pictures to wade through (140 ish i think) but Lindsey has posted a couple of the already, including one she took of me and her nephew that she thinks is "too cute". For more on our trip it's best to have a look at her page
there was so much there though that i just couldn't stop taking pictures, i think she probably thinks i'm a little weird because of it...i took a pile more over the last couple of days while we've been in Savannah.
speaking of which, we saw the park that tom hanks sits in front of while telling forrest gump's story, although the bench has now been removed and put in the tourist office (where they'll charge you $4 to see it, but you can't touch it, sit on it or take pictures of it, but they will sell you pictures of it). and had a long old wander around the river and bay street areas of the city.
Those of you who really know me, know that i have a dry sense of humour and if i can get away with someting i'll do it...like walking around the aquarium with a t-shirt depicting a fish that's written "smart arse" out of his backside...(i did this because someone, ok it was linsdey, picked the shirt out because she thought it was funny and suited me). anyway I have a t-shirt that has "sinner" emblazoned across the from of it. i was wearing this shirt when we arrived in Savannah, to me it's no different to the pornstar t-shirt or thundercats t-shirts that i have, i wera it because i like it. well we went into a restaurant to get some lunch when the waitress took notice of my t-shirt and kept asking what it meant and what religion i was and all that kind of stuff. she scared me! so much so that when we checked into the hotel, i went and changed into a thundercats one...she was WEIRD!!!!
normally this kind of thing doesn't bother me, but she really did, she wouldn't let up about the shirt...i wore it again today though as we left and no-one else took a blind bit of notice of it, so it's not like i was being offensive (which is that main reason i wanted to change, i don't like offending people)
but savannah was really pretty, i took another 40 or 50 pictures, some of really random things, while we were there, adding to the thought that lindsey may think i've got a weird photo fetish (although she assures me she doesn't think this).
we went on a horse and buggy tour of the city just as it got dark last night and found out loads about the haunted areas of the city and all the interesting little stories that are behind the ghosts, including about one guy who locks women in the bathroom of one of the taverns. the tour was good fun and the guide was entertaining and kept it interesting.
so i have all these pictures that i'll be posting when i get home, so miss ash doesn't need to panic anymore, there will be some soon enough ;) i just want to go through them all and make sure that i'm not going to bore you with them...
I'm not sure what we're going to do the next couple of days, there's a couple of things in the pipeline, but we'll have to wait and see what crops up

not looking forward to leaving, although i've picked up a little of the southern drawl when i talk at times. and i'm already thinking ahead and wondering how long it'll take me to save up and come back...

pictures as soon as i get back to the uk

In Atlanta

Just so you all know, I'm here and loving it
although i keep forgetting about my camera, so far i took 3 pictures, and that was of me, the beer i had to get me on the plane and (although i didn't realise it at the time) the plane that got me here...
Yesterday I met Linny's family, we all sat and ate, it was really nice to do the family thing, mainly because my family is falling (or has fallen) apart over the last year or 2. we also went shopping and got a couple of bargains.
Today we're off to the aquarium, tomorrow we're off to Savannah...
it's so nice out here, the weather is really nice, even though i was told it'd be chilly...remember i'm from the uk, chilly to me is a lot different than chilly is over here!
Also, my phone doesn't work out here, even though i checked with my service operator before i left that it would...it's strangely liberating not being able to use it though, although it's left me without a clock, so i never know what the time is!
I'll try to remember to take my camera out with us over the next few days
I'm cooking tonight too...should be fun :)
right peeps, i'm off

but as documented before, i'm heading off tomorrow to visit Linny and generally just chill and have a nice break from my normal life
and i can't wait

maybe i'll post while i'm there...

dentist again

i had a check up at the dentist today
this is significant in the fact that i've not had a check-up in about 10 or 12 years...
i've been several times over the years, but always because i knew i had work that needed to be done (an abcess or a big filling)
but today i went knowing that it was just a check-up
and it was good...
for the first time in more than 12 years, i was told that i didn't need to have anything done...
although he did give me a free filling because one fell out, but it didn't need any other work or drilling or anything, and i knew about it as it always falls out...
today is a good day :)

and it's only 3 days until i'll be in the airport getting ready to fly
(my only other big fear)

take care

Tuesday 9 October 2007

is it tuesday already?

man the time seems to be flying past at the moment

i'm wondering if it's because i'm enjoying things at the moment, and trying to get my life back into some sort of order.
i'm wondering if it's because i have a proper job again
i'm wondering if it's because i'm looking forward to my holiday
i'm wondering if it's because i'm secretly being abducted by aliens at the weekend and have no idea about it

i joined the gym
i've even been to the gym
twice
and i went swimming too
but only the once
so far

the landlord at the pub is away from today for a week or so, and because i'm such a good boy, i've offered to go in every night this week and lock up...
after doing a 12 hour day on sunday, and every night this week for a couple of hours at least... money money money
although it does mean that i've not really got any time to pack or sort anything out for my holiday...so it's going to be a last minute thing, as per usual
although i could do with some new clothes, so i could just pack half a suitcase or less and buy stuff out there...what do you think?

right anyway, it's lunchtime and i'm wasting away (yeah...right)
take care peeps

Friday 5 October 2007

take a break and remember when...(it's a british thing)

Does anyone remember "Twizzle" What were you doing when you were young? Just for a minute, forget everything stressful and read this.......
Close your eyes and go back in time...
Before the Internet... Before SEGA or Super Nintendo...
Way back........ I'm talking about Hide and Seek in the park. The corner shop. Hopscotch. Butterscotch. Skipping. Handstands. Football with an old can. Beano, Dandy, Buster, Twinkle and Dennis the menace Roly Poly. Hula Hoops, jumping the stream, building dams. The smell of the sun and fresh cut grass. An ice cream cone on a warm summer night from the van that plays a tune.
Chocolate or vanilla or strawberry or maybe Neapolitan or perhaps a screwball.
Wait......
Watching Saturday morning cartoons, short commercials or the flicks. Children's Film Foundation, The Double Deckers, Red Hand Gang. The Tomorrow People, Tiswas or Swapshop and 'Why Don't You' or staying up for Doctor Who.
When around the corner seemed far away and going into town seemed like going somewhere.
Earwigs, wasps, stinging nettles and bee stings. White dog s**t. Sticky fingers. Playing Marbles. Ball bearings. Big 'uns and Little 'uns. Kiss Chase, Cops and Robbers, Cowboys and Indians. Climbing trees. Building igloos out of snow banks. Walking to school no matter what the weather. Running till you were out of breath, laughing so hard that your stomach hurt. Jumping on the bed and pillow fights. Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles. Being tired from playing....remember that? The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team. Water balloons were the ultimate weapon. Football cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle. Choppers and Grifters. Eating raw jelly. Orange squash ice pops.
Remember when...
There were two types of trainers - girls and boys and Dunlop Green Flash - and the only time you wore them was at school for P.E. You knew everyone in your street - and so did your parents. It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends. When nobody owned a pure-bred dog. You didn't sleep a wink on Christmas Eve. When 25p was decent pocket money Curly Wurleys. Space Dust. Toffo's. Top Trumps. When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny. When nearly everyone's mum was at home when the kids got there. When any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him or use him to carry groceries and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it. When being sent to the head's office was nothing compared to the Fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home. Didn't that feel good? Just to go back and say, Yeah, I remember that!
Remember when....
Decisions were made by going " Ip Dip Dog S**t " "Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest. Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "Monopoly". The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was germs. And the worst thing in your day was having to sit next to one. It was unbelievable that 'British Bulldog 123' wasn't an Olympic event.
Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a catapult. Nobody was prettier than Mum. Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better. Taking drugs meant orange-flavoured chewable aspirin. Ice cream was considered a basic food group. Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true. Older siblings were the worst tormentors but also the fiercest protectors. If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED. Pass this on to anyone who may need a break from their "grown up" life...
GO ON... I DOUBLE-DARE YOU!!!!!!!

the new job

ok
so i'm actually sat at the desk of my new job now

how cool is that :)

it's lunchtime at the moment so i can (ab)use the interent for a while, as long as i don't do too much in the way of stupid surfing...

anyway...
the new job
so far this morning i've started filling in paperwork and i've sort of familiarised myself with the building, the main system that i'll be using and a couple of other bits and pieces. but in general it's been a nice morning. even though i was rubbish at getting out of bed this morning and was a couple of minutes later than i should've been...
hey, at least i done anything stupid like crash the van which i did one the first day at the driving job! but there's still time yet!!!

i'll try and sort out a decent post either this evening or at the latest within the next couple of days, you know, a newsy one, with a bit of a laugh and all that stuff in it...

take it easy peeps
