2 interviews, 24 hours and a lot of driving pt 2 (take 2)

ok i'm trying this one again

thursday
interview 1
stage 1 interview...sit down and chat to the nice people
which i did, i put across why i want the job (i think i can do it, i'm after something that i can get my teeth into and basically i've not got a job) they asked a series of classic questions, the best one being "if i were to ask your current manager (group of friends) to describe you in 3 words, what would they say?" so i was honest, i said that he'd say i was reliable, trustworthy and big. which is true, he'd say that, my mates would probably add loyal in there as well, but the big would still be there.
made me laugh
the place was really nice (although a little warm) the atmosphere was relaxed and it seemed like somewhere where i could work happily.
they even had a fussball table in the staff room (i say staff room, it was more like a big lounge)
anyway 2nd part of the interview was a pair of maths and communicatoins tests, 30 minutes each test, he maths test had 40 questions which i didn't complete and the comms test had 60 questions which i finished in 20 miuntes
confidence level: >70%
would i take it? yes

drive to somerset was pretty boring, but on the way down i did have a chuckle (so much so that i nearly crashed) as i passed a van which bore the company legend B.J.Champion, i think they were plumbers or electricians...but that was the sole highlight of a rather boring drive which the computer was righ about, it did take me about 2 hours (but then i was in traffic the WHOLE way

the evening was good, the pub i stayed in was nice, had a couple of drinks, 6 or 7 i think, not actually that sure...nice food and a nice room too, recommend it to anyone who's in that area.

interview 2
i got there on time, felt fine too, considering the drinking the night before...
had a tour, it reminded me of when i was working for SOLL because (and i don't mean ths badly against SOLL) the centre was in school grounds and was run down (i say run down, it was in a worse state than the abbey centre in berinsfield...much worse)
tour of the facility lead me to think that it wasn't actually that bad, but the staff there did see to be a little stuck in their ways (think penny at berinsfield for those of you who know who i mean) and there wasn't much in the way of advertising, promotional material, interest/eye-catching stuff, there wasn't enough storage space, although i have no idea as to the activities that would go on over there anyway, because there was no information on them.
interview phase 1...panel interview
15 minutes with different groups that represented the centre, the staff and the trust behind it. the centre and the staff were good sections, i babbled on about developing the centre within the community, about promoting the centre and increasing awareness of it, about changing the programme for the centre making it more to do with what people want rather than just what can be offered. the third mini interview was crap, the bloke who interviewed me was about 85 and wouldn't recognise the modern leisure industry in a criminal line-up even if it was the only one in the line up! he asked me several questions and didn't give me much time to understand what he was asking, let alone actually letting me answer them before he butted in with what he thought i should've answered anyway...
lunch...was enough for about 12 people, but seeing as they were only interviewing 3 of us and 2 of them left before lunch, it was pretty much all for me and anyone who was left (staff wise) so i chowed down and then went into my proper interview
it went well i guess, although one person thought i was turning the leisure centre into a leisure club because i didn't get my point across well enough the first time, so i corrected myself and cleared up the ambiguity (big words today). then came the all time classic question "why do you think you should get the job?" i went at it with confidence "because i'm the best person to fill this role, i've got a wealth of experience, i'm young and ambitious and i have hte drive to make this centre succeed" i even told them that one of my previous managers said that i would be back into leisure within 3 years of leaving it because i've got pool water for blood, overkill maybe, but by this point i was in two minds about the job anyway.
confidence level: 60%
would i take it? maybe

drive home was ok, uneventful though and although i came back a different and longer way, it still only took about 2 hours and i used less fuel on the way back than on the way...

other news
not a lot is happening at the moment
spent the day in london yesterday, walking around and just trying not to think about the interviews or anything like that. someone new was acting as my guide because she needed to go there for her work and i bummed along for the fun of it and because i didn't want to be in didcot for another day

anyway, it's tuesday morning (nearly lunchtime really now) and i was told that i should hear something yesterday or today with regards to the job i'm not sure i want, so we'll see and i'll update as soon as i've heard anything
laters peeps
